I learned some years back, in a science education class I
took, that I think primarily in pictures, not words, and have had to learn to
translate those pictures into words. It
has been a challenge at times to translate my thoughts, especially into the
written word. I have struggled with
writing coherently.
I am just beginning to realize I may have always had a secret yearning to be a writer. As I look back on my life, I realize I've done a lot of writing over the years. Writing a novel or any form of fiction doesn't particularly appeal to me. It has primarily been in the form of lesson plans and instruction manuals. At one time I wrote an entire K through 6th grade science curriculum from things that can be found at the grocery store. I also wrote a US history curriculum from stories from the point of view of families that lived through that particular period in history.
The one area I have done little writing or even talking about is regarding my life. When I started a craft business I found I needed to write about myself and descriptions of the products I sell. I realized I hoarded all the words and knowledge I had gained over the years. It was selfish to keep that to myself, when I could be helping other makers. I started a blog. There were really two reason's I started a blog. One was to give my business and shop a bigger online presence. The other was to find my written voice. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a voice in writing. The more I write, the more I realize I do have a voice when I write and it is slowly emerging.
