While sitting around a fire barrel at a Webelo Camporee with
the parents of my campers (I was the den leader at that time) we got talking
religion. There was a Jewish man, a Catholic
woman, a Baha'i woman and myself, who
had been raised protestant but didn't attend.
It was a wonderful discussion centered on our commonality. The Baha'i woman made the statement that the
Baha'is believe that all religions come from God. I could hardly believe my ears. That belief was something I'd decided was
true sometime back.
I was raised going to church, even being active as a teen. As an adult, I saw too many inconsistencies to be able to comfortably attend. Although I remained spiritual and always believed in what I came to call 'The Great Spirit'.
I read everything I could get my hands on from the writings of the Baha'i Faith. I kept looking for something I couldn't believe or agree with. I believe that there is only on God. I believe God gave us all the religions, just at different times and places. I believe all people are my brothers or sisters. I believe in equal rights for women and men. I believe that science and religion agree. I believe Baha'u'llah is the latest messenger from God to renew the spirituality in the world.
After talking with my parents and having my mother tell me she was so happy I found a path to God, I became a Baha'i on New Year's Day 1993. The more I know and learn, the more I know I made the right decision for me.
